Happy Holiday Hostful

Happy Holiday Hostful

What a year 2016 has been. Globally, it was an incredibly tough one for a lot of people, and one that has many of us (me included) deeply examining our choices, our actions and our why.

One of the positives I’m choosing to see in the fallout of 2016 is an increase in ACTION. So many people have felt powerless this year - be it politically, environmentally or socially - but I’ve seen so many take that as an opportunity to do something. Challenging, supporting, protesting, changing… We can make a difference, and when things feel desperate, like they have at times this year, we can still do something. That’s the upside of a year that has taken a steep toll.

Personally, however, 2016 has been a (good) big year. Ben and I started down the path of self-employment, we’ve challenged ourselves in ways we never thought possible, we’ve worked harder than we thought we could, and at the end of it all we still love each other (and like each other).

In today’s poggie, a special ‘year in review’ kind of hostful, we talk about the good, the bad and the ugly of 2016. We look at the Slow Home Experiments - which ones have stuck, which ones have fallen by the wayside - and which ones we’ve learnt the most from.

We also talk more about the year that was, our personal highlights, the biggest challenges we faced and the toughest lessons we each learnt, as well as the things we’ll be doing more of and less of in the year ahead.

I’ve never been someone who chooses a guiding word for the year ahead, but inspired by my dear friend Kelly Exeter, I decided to nominate one for 2017 and Ben’s giving it a go too. We reveal what they are (and why) in this episode as well.

We wrap up with some talk about the poggie in 2017 - we’re taking a break from today through to early February, but will be hosting a Summer Series every Thursday to give you a chance to revisit some of our favourite episodes of the past two years. There’s also a special, silly treat for you next Monday, so be sure to check it out.

But I just want to round out the year by saying an enormous thank you to everyone who has listened, shared, reviewed, laughed at, or enjoyed one of our shows this year. We wouldn’t be anything without the amazing people who listen, ask questions or appear as guests and Ben and I want you to know just how much we love and appreciate you all.

Here’s to a better 2017, full of action, change and ownership of our choices - plus a whole heap of fun and stupid jokes too. Knowledge Nugs for all these holidays!
