The Slow Return

I snapped this beauty on our roadtrip through Utah in 2018.

“Our idea of home has changed completely.”

Oh hi, hello. Remember us? Yes indeedy, it has been a while.

After we landed back in Australia in March, life got really real. Really full, really different, really uncertain and really transitional. Those of you who are subscribed to the Slow Post know I took some time away from my work in order to uber-tilt in to supporting my family, finding somewhere new to settle and to not lose my head completely, and you probably also know how right that decision felt.

That sense of rightness is one of the biggest gifts slowing down has given me. When I slow down and get mindful I’m able to live, work and act in alignment with my Why, and when I’m able to do that – BOOM. Rightness.

Not to say easy. Not even to say simple. But right.

The past couple of months have been made so much clearer because I took that step back, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this wonderful community who understands why I’ve done it. It means a great deal to know that, in this fast-paced world, where we’re constantly told that to slow down is to risk losing – money, success, audience, influence – we can choose a different path. That slowing down is not only OK, but often the right thing to do.

So last week, when Ben looked at me over the dining table and said words I hadn’t heard him say in months (maybe longer), “I really want to record a podcast episode,” I knew.

I knew, with that same sense of rightness, that the time to tilt my energies back in to work, the podcast, writing again, was coming closer.

So we sat down and recorded a short hostful. One where we tell you what’s been happening, where we’ve landed in this beautiful country and how we’re feeling. We also talk about our future plans and when you can expect the poggie to return.

So listen in to get the low-down and stay tuned for Season 3, which will be in and around your earholes on Thursday 25th July.

Until then, happy days my friends. And thank you again. xx

  1. Welcome back! I really agree with you that sometimes a good break can do wonders.. and your true and real readers will stick around regardless.

  2. So happy for you guys, you’ve had the big adventure and then to come home and try to decide where to settle, such a big decision- but you both sound so happy and relaxed- would love to know where . I often think of a sea change- love where I am but the sea is still calling, not sure if it’s a romance or real, but I hope I will be as brave as you two- wishing you the very best of everything Cheers Margiexxx

  3. Glad to hear you again guys!

Once again your wisdom has been completely on point, and exactly what I needed to hear after having a (literal) sea-change with my family in the last 3 months. I’ve been so hyped up by all the ‘doing’ that now I can finally take a breath I’m finding it hard to SLOW, especially mentally. So thank you for giving me permission to just sit and take it all in.

  4. Wonderful to hear your voices and have you back. Bring on the 25th July! I don’t recall hearing in the podcast where you’ve landed in Australia, but great to hear you’re settled and happy. My husband and I have extended our wonderful and very slow ‘mid life gap year’ – after traveling and house sitting overseas for almost 12 months, we are now house, pet and even farm sitting around Australia, plus volunteering through the workaway website. We’re looking forward to settling again though later in the year back in Adelaide.

Thanks for all you both share and give. You guys have been so inspiring, and we Iove all your work.

PS I’ve read your Slow book twice now, it’s fantastic!!!
