So What is a Slow Home? An Introduction.
First, a definition:
The old adage, "home is where the heart is" rings true on this blog."Home" is not just a house. Home is:
- your family
- your relationships
- your house, apartment, barn or tent
- the memories you are making
- your garden
- your health
- your creativity
- your kitchen and the food you prepare in it
- your spirituality
So the "home" I speak of here at Slow Your Home is all-encompassing. It is everything that is important. Everything that makes up the essence of you.
OK, So What Makes a Slow Home?
Now we understand that "home" is not just four walls and a roof, it's time to look at what a slow home actually is.
- It's ORGANISED
- It's DECLUTTERED and SIMPLIFIED
- It's DECORATED MINDFULLY
- It's FILLED WITH GOOD MEMORIES
- It's LIGHT and AIRY
- It's CONNECTED TO THE OUTDOORS
- It's PART OF A COMMUNITY
- It's GREEN, HEALTHY and ECO-CONSCIOUS
- It GIVES TIME AND SPACE TO ENJOY LIFE
If you look at each of these elements separately (and I plan to, over the coming weeks) they are all incredibly positive traits to have in your home. Combine them - even some of them - and your life and home will benefit more than you can imagine.Well, that's the plan anyway!**Just a note: At no point am I suggesting that I have my shit completely together with creating a slow home. I don't. Not by a long shot. But I am heading down the path towards a slower and simpler life and would love to share the successes and failures along the way, hoping to inspire and inform - and entertain! - those of you who come along for the ride.**
