10 things you might not know about us

10 things you might not know about us - Episode 165 of The Slow Home Podcast

Sometimes I worry about the things we share with you on this poggie. Sometimes I worry they’re too serious. Sometimes I worry they’re too silly. Too raw. Too protective. Too honest. Too polished.

I think we do a pretty decent job of balancing what we share and what we don’t but there are times I don’t know if I do a good job of portraying us. The real people behind the microphones and the real life we’re creating every day.

So when we had a last minute interview cancellation earlier this week Ben and I thought it might be a good opportunity to do another hostful episode, but this time spend it digging a little deeper in to the parts of us we don’t often share on the show. Parts that might surprise you (or not) and parts that we might be a little hesitant to share.

We talk about secret habits and vain concerns. We dive in to little-shared talents and personality traits. We disclose some rather embarrassing admissions about farm-based gaming apps and we also share our thoughts and reasons for using social media the way we do (and the way we don’t).

I truly believe that sharing openly (but intentionally) brings down barriers between us as humans and hopefully today’s episode also helps to round out your idea of who we are and the kind of life we’re living. Because it’s not all #slowliving and making each and every decision in alignment with our why. It’s real and evolving and consists of compromises more often than not. And it’s great.

What’s interesting, as I write this post, is that I’m far less worried about sharing any of this than I was a year ago, which probably means I’ve become much more comfortable with who we are and what we stand for, and the fact that not everyone will get it or like it. And that’s A-OK too.

So take a listen as Ben and I reveal 10 things you may not know about us, including…

    • Am I earnest or silly or a combination of both?
    • What’s Ben’s dirty little secret?
    • Which of us was addicted to My Little Pony – Friendship is Magic?
    • Just how successful is Jackrabbit.FM?
  • Which one of us has recorded an album?

Listen in and all will be revealed…

  1. Ben! You need sound like you may enjoy reading the book ‘Quiet’ by Susan Cain. Introversion is not black and white but a spectrum. I would for sure be labeled an extrovert but also need alone time to recharge. You are not alone:)

  2. This was so good. I love the comment about “decluttering your secrets”.
Such a great point. I do not think you come across too serious, Brooke. I think you are hilarious!

  3. You may be an ambivert, Ben, or an extroverted introvert? I do also recommend the book “Quiet”, as someone else has in a comment above.

You definitely do come across as funny, Brooke, so fear not that you appear constantly serious.

    “Die, tree, die!” – lol!

Wow for your singing, Ben – that’s amazing. Singing is such a joy.

I find I remember podcasts I’ve watched/listened to more than my own – I constantly forget if I’ve mentioned something yet it’s clear in my mind when someone else does!

Omg to the end of ‘The Mist’! Argh!

Thanks for a great episode – a fateful interview cancellation so that you could give us this. :-)

  4. First of all, thank you so much for sharing so much knowledge and fun to all around the world!

I’m so resonating with you, Ben – regarding the duality intro/extrovert.If you’ve got time, you could read this short article about being a highly sensitive person – and keep reading to “8. Not all highly sensitive people are introverts.”. Discovering this personality-trait was such an moment of “whoa” for me, explaining so much of my weird quirks (that’s just do to a more sensitive nervous system than the majority of mankind).

So, wow – I love your podcast, and “slow your home” was part of my way into minimalism og a slower, more meaningful life.

Thank you so much, and best wishes!

  5. Love the podcast! And this ep. But Brooke I can’t find the link to the podcast you said was great (unqualified but couldn’t catch the person). Lol. I know no why I often feel the podcast notes are missing things. Maybe you can ask volunteers from your huge audience to volunteer to do the notes for a poggie or two. I can’t remember who asked their base to do that, but she got so many keen beans helping her to transcribe the podcast (which is much more intensive than just a few notes). I know you will need a lot of convincing for this though, but seriously you’d get HEAPS of helpers do write up notes.
