A very hostful holiday!

A very hostful holiday - SHP040

It’s hard to believe today’s show is the final episode of The Slow Home Podcast for 2015.

It’s been such a cracking year, and we’re so incredibly grateful for everyone who’s listened, shared, rated or reviewed the show since we launched in April. Without your help and input, the podcast wouldn’t be anywhere near as much fun to make. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

We’re rounding out the year with a final hostful, where Ben and I chat about the year that’s been, some of our highlights, some very exciting future plans, and we answer three most excellent listener questions. We also were interrupted approximately eleventy billion times while recording, so if we seem a little crazy – that’s at least part of the reason. The other part is that we’re like that all the time.

The questions we tackle this week are related to:

    • finding a balance between community service and living a slower life
    • how to avoid the ‘all or nothing’ tendency once we start to explore slow living
  • how to balance extra-curricular activities with a slower family life

As always, we discover there are rarely straightforward answers to any of these questions, which is what makes it so juicy and interesting to talk about. And also as always, feel free to share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below, as well as suggestions or requests for shows next year.

Finally, thank you so very much for being part of this show and this community in 2015. I pinch myself frequently when I see what a supportive, smart, like-minded group we’re part of and I just want you to know how much I appreciate you being here.

I hope your year-end celebrations are wonderful and that you embrace the opportunity for some downtime.

I’ve got a couple of bonus blog posts coming out later in the month and early next year, but for the most part I’ll be totally offline from Christmas Eve until mid-January and I CAN’T WAIT.

Much love to you and yours. xx

  1. This week I finally figured out how to listen to your podcasts on my phone as I drive to work. I can’t tell you how inspirational they have been each morning on my commute. I listened to #36-39 and the powerful messages really spoke to me each in their own way, especially Hands-Free Living which helped me see why even though I am trying to live a simple life, I need to stop multi-tasking and set aside time to be present with my family to feel it is a simple life. Great interviews and I now like my 30 minute drive :)

  2. Great pod cast guys! And made me chuckle and want a glass of wine! ;) Especially the volunteering aspect. I’m in the process of reflecting and planning the volunteering I’m going to help with in the new year, to do the work that resonates in my heart of hearts. I have said yes too much this year which ment I put my family second and it caused us pressure so Im contemplating how to tackle this in the new year, so great timing!

Congratulations on the award! That’s awesome. :)
    xx

    • Haha! Thanks Emma! Sounds like you’re heading in to the new year with a great perspective on your volunteer work – it can be so challenging finding that middle ground, so well done on looking at your priorities and figuring out how to make it work for you. xx

  3. Thank you so much for your podcasts. I really enjoy them. Even when I don’t think I’ll relate to your guest, I’ll gleen a little nugget or inspiration. I could really relate to the volunteer/balance topic. A few years ago I became burned out on volunteering through school, church, community, etc. Then someone told me that I didn’t need to say ‘yes’ every time I was asked to give of my time. They told me there would people who acrually enjoy the volunteer work that I was dreading. And if not, like you said, that’s OK. And I learned that I enjoy the volunteer work when I’m passionate about what I’m doing. Asking the ‘Why’ is very important. Merry Christmas! I’ll miss you while you’re away but look forward to the new things coming!

    • Thanks so much, Shari! I’m so happy to hear you’ve got a lot from the podcasts this year! And I hear you loud and clear on the volunteering issue – it’s something I’ve definitely worked hard to process this year. We can’t wait to get back to the podcast in the new year – very excited for all the changes and additions. Thanks again for listening. xx

  4. You probably think I am ridiculous commenting so far back – 3 years on! But I started listening to your podcasts from the beginning in March, and have made it through to the end of 2015 by May because I have loved them so much.
Thank you for all the fabulous interviews and insights, I really feel I am embracing this concept of slow living more and more. Hopefully when I am fully up to date with your podcasts and listening live, I’ll be even more involved and living it.
